The "Quiet Time" or
Devotional is a time regularly set apart to be alone with God in
a quiet place to develop and strengthen a relationship
with our Father in heaven. This comes through reading His Word
and Prayer, which then should lead to our desire to do out of
love what He wants.
1 Corinthians 1:9 tells us that we who are believers are called to have 'fellowship' with God through Jesus Christ; this is a continuing relationship with the very creator of the universe! There are many examples in the Bible of those who met out of more than just good habit with God. Let us look at just four of these here:
ABRAHAM'S EXAMPLE According to Genesis 19:27, where did Abraham go in the morning? Why?
MOSES' EXAMPLE In Exodus 34:2,3 the Lord told Moses to
come to Him. What can I learn from verse 3 especially?
DAVID'S EXAMPLE What example did king David give me in
Psalm 5, verse 3?
JESUS' EXAMPLE Read Mark 1:35. How important do I believe
it is to spend regular time with my Father as Jesus did?
IMPORTANCE OF READING THE BIBLE (God talks to me):
1) Read Luke 10:38-42, then answer the following... What did Mary do that pleased the Lord?
What priority did Jesus give? Explain.
2) Look at James 1:22-25. How is God's Word like a mirror?
3) In Joshua 1:8, God promises prosperity and success.
What are the conditions to obtain these two things?
IMPORTANCE OF PRAYER (I talk with God):
1) How does Jesus view the importance of prayer in Matthew 6:6?
2) What is a benefit of spending much time in talking with
my Father? (as seen in Psalm 91:1)
3) From Psalm 143:8, what two things can I pray for
before reading the Bible in my Quiet Time?
FATHER AND CHILD:
Galatians 4:6 says that I am God's very own child, and that this
adoption is a result of His love for me - unearned on my part (1
John 3:1,2). How do I think that meeting with God every day
(morning) can help me to develop my relationship with God my
Father?
Write down and meditate on this during the coming week, and PRAY to thank God for your mended relationship broken in Eden.
