Memorizing Bible verses is one of the toughest spiritual disciplines for many, yet often provides the best defense (Matthew 4) against the adversary's attacks, and gives strength for the weary.
Ask any Christian who has made the effort and taken the time to "hide" God's Word in their heart (not just in their head), and you will hear some wonderful testimonies of how the Holy Spirit can bring verses to one's life!
HIS WORD IN MY HEART
1) Carefully read Deuteronomy 11:18 and Job 22:21,22. What does it mean to lay up His word in my heart?
2) According to Jeremiah 15:16 and Job 32:12, what should
my attitude be in memorizing God's Word?
3) What personal benefit can be seen from Psalm 119:9,11
concerning Scripture Memory?
SCRIPTURE MEMORY HELPS ME
1) What is evident from Ephesians 6:12 and Revelation 12:17 on the part His Word plays when taken to heart?
2) Read Matthew 4:1-11 and Luke 4:1-15.
* How did Jesus answer
the devil's temptations?
* In what way(s) did the devil misuse Scripture (Lk 4:10)?
* What was Jesus' response based on?
3) What must I do according to Joshua 1:8 to translate
God's word from my head to my heart once I do memorize it?
4) James 1:2-25 describes God's Word as a mirror. How can I use
Scripture Memory to fulfill verse 25?
SCRIPTURE MEMORY HELPS ME TO HELP OTHERS
* Read Acts 2:14-41, noting how Peter used Scripture . . . and the results.
1) How can
committing God's Word to memory and heart help me to tell others
about Jesus Christ?
2) What part can Scripture Memory have in teaching others?
JESUS' EXAMPLE:
* Read through Mark, or one of the other Gospels, observing the
Lord's use of Bible verses which He quoted from.
* If Jesus and the
apostles gave me such examples, what do I think the importance of
hiding God's Word in my heart is, and what am I going to do
about it?
